This video takes a look at the Los Angeles Photographic Society, a group that dives together in Southern California and whose members travel internationally to capture great images of the undersea world. Taking photos and video is a great way to enhance the diving experience and to share it with divers and non-divers alike.

Islas Santa Catalina
Guanacaste, Costa Rica
The Catalinas lie just off Costa Rica’s NW Pacific coast. While the visibility isn’t what you’d find in the Caribbean or South Pacific, the area is notable for its abundance and variety of fish, including many different species of puffers, whitetip sharks, eels and rays.

Blackbeard's Cruises (http://www.blackbeard-cruises.com) takes the budget Caribbean liveaboard experience to a whole new level, offering a dive-intensive week in the rich waters of the Bahamas' Exuma Cays. The first video from my mid-May trip on the 65-foot Morning Star is my tribute to that experience and to the great divers and crew that I met on board.

This is from a 3-dive trip to the island on the Sand Dollar dive boat out of San Pedro. Highlights of the day include a shy horn shark hiding in a cave and - yes - a nudibranch dancing with a lobster around an urchin.

This is a short sequence from a series of dives at Anacapa (7/25/2010) where I saw a total of 5 giant sea bass. With nothing in the frame for scale, it is hard to tell, but these guys are 5-6 feet in length!
The first and second one here may or may not be the same fish. However, these are from three separate encounters, so it still warrants the obscure musical reference.

This footage is from a 3-tank Sunday in the marine park right off Casino Point. I took the ferry over with Reef Seekers (http://www.reefseekers.com) and we taxied over to the dive site. This is a very convenient and affordable way to dive Catalina Island.

This is from two days of diving in Montego Bay, Jamaica in May 2010. Although Jamaica does not have a reputation as a diving hotspot, I found the coral to be in better shape than expected (thanks to recent conservation efforts) and populated with a decent amount of smaller fish.
Captain's Watersports, the in-house dive service at Round Hill Hotel & Villas, was a solid operation with a great staff and a fast boat (http://www.captainsdivecenter.com).

Snorkeling and swimming on the house reef at Round Hill Hotel and Villas. This is the "shallow water" companion piece to the Montego Bay Diving video. Music courtesy Baroolyo via MacIdol.com. Thanks to Ellen Kotheimer for the modeling work.
Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
