We had the pleasure of linking up with Matt Reyes and the WheelTalkFixed crew recently in San Francisco. Over the course of 2 days they took us to some of their favorite spots to ride. These guys are some of the most talented riders in this young sport and are considered to be pioneers. This was shot in slow motion on the Sony FS700 and RED Epic, with the stunning Cine-Xenar III lenses provided by our good friends at Schneider Optics. We also want to thank our friends at Solid Camera for outfitting the FS700 for the shoot, the build quality and design of their products is unparalleled.

Cruising the strip with Alex Gonzalez. Interbike 2013. #yungfixie.
The homie Alex has been coming out to events in Sac for some time now and killing it at others all over. He took first (fixed) at this year's Vegas Drag, muscled his way into Ride and Style and and still shows up to just about everything he can. He's here to ride and for a young dude he's pretty damn motivated. After spending what felt like an eternity in the car to and from Interbike we got to talking about him posting on the blog. He turned me down a while back but jumped at the opportunity to share his race exploits and adventures with everyone. Look for some stuff on the site from him here and there.

Zak’s racing career began as a courier in Pittsburgh, competing in local courier races, twice winning the North American Cycle Courier “Track King” title. He segued into racing on the velodrome and worked his way through the ranks quickly.
2011 saw Zak winning the Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge points race, the biggest race of the year at his home track, defeating arch rival Jame Carney. At the Fixed Gear Classic in Blaine, MN, Zak and long time madison partner Dan Harm won the madison, competing against long time Six Day pro Franco Marvulli.
Zak still works occasionally as a courier, but his main focus is on moving up to the next level in his racing career. His dream until a year ago? Racing pro six days in Europe. Then in 2013 the all-but-forgotten art of steher racing had a little yankee flavour added during the 102nd Berlin Six Day when reining US omnium champion Zak Kovalcik competed in the high-speed niche event.
And we’ve been lucky enough to follow him during this amazing week in Berlin.
Team State Bicycle Co. has been traveling to West to LA since we've started to seek out the best competition. We recently went out to LA for the 3rd and final race of the Wolfpack Hustle Unified Title Series. Things didn't go as planned at the race, but the big take away is to have fun in the moment. We cherish all of the times spent competing, traveling, and having fun as a team. We've met some great people all over the world through our race experiences; win or lose, nothing beats this. Hope you enjoy the video, we are happy sharing what we love to to do with you.
