Groninger Museum

  1. The Groninger Museum openend the doors again after eight months at saturday 18th december.

Together with AVL-Concepts (technical), Matthijs van der Veer (audio) and Maurits van der Boon (3D animation) we projected the front wall of the Mendini tower.
Unfortunately the other two sides could not be projected. Two electrical platforms and two projectors decided that it was too cold to perform (it was -7 degrees Celsius) so we were glad we were able to project at least one side! After the first disappointments we were able to enjoy the looks of the projections.

  2. Since the opening in 1994, a total of 3,732,000 visitors have paid a visit to the Groninger Museum. However, on account of this overwhelming success the building is now due for a revitalization. The ambition to carry it out is great and the plans allow for two successive stages. Therefore the museum is closed from 12 April to 18 December 2010.

Here is the fourth and last video showing the revitalization of the museum.

  3. 'Russia's Unknown Orient' tells the story of Russia's (art-)historical bond with its southern neighbours: Uzbekistan, Georgia, Armenia and the Crimean peninsula. It was a bond that was characterized by a fascination for oriental traditions. The word 'Orientalism' has been in use since the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was a genre in painting which focused on themes such as the Middle East and North Africa.

The Groninger Museum is build in the water of the Verbindings Canal in Groningen, a town in the northern Netherlands. The new Groninger Museum is not merely a casing for art, it is a work of art in itself. The ultimate design by the Italian Alessandro Mendini and the three guest architects Philippe Starck, Michele de Lucchi, and Coop Himmelb[l]au was completed in 1994. The museum shows modern and contemporary art, fashion and design, as well as historic arts.
