A 24 hour time trial (TT), I raced Sebring to qualify for solo RAAM this year. The race started Saturday, Feb 18 at 6:30 am and ended Sunday, Feb 19 at 6:30am. Needing only to go a minimum of 400 miles within the 24 hours period, I pulled up after 22 hours and 8 minutes with 405.9 miles. It is no doubt a very grueling event, one which I plan to actually race next year in an effort to place. I was just off the podium in 4th this year but given this…

A tour of the single track MTB trails in Peachtree City, GA (AKA Stinky Trails and BSC Trails). Truly awesome and technical riding available just a short ride from my doorstep. Shot using 6 different camera mounts, I was challenged to cut down nearly 9 hours of footage into this 5 minute video. Hopefully I captured the essence of this great trail :)
The 2011 Atlanta Fall 200K (Bundrick's Revenge, AKA 10 Gap). A reported 127.8 miles with 23,572 foot of climbing over 10 mountain passes. The ride route is most of the Six Gap Century in reverse, a climb of the fabled Brasstown Bald, (the highest point in Georgia) at the halfway point, and then backtracks the Six Gap route again. By far the toughest ride I have ever done. This was my first brevet and I knew it was gonna be a tough one. I ended up…
Recon ride of the Fool's Gold MTB race course on Aug 6, 2011. It was an incredibly tough course. Looking back, we suffered greatly simply due to not knowing the course or the demands from an endurance MTB event. Our race day two weeks later went much better. We got deep into trouble when we ran out of water on a really long section of single track and became dehydrated after suffering for a couple hours in the mountains of Dahlonega. It rained on…
The 2011 Georgia 400 Century. Decided to ride it this year on a full suspension 26 inch mountain bike as training for the Fool's Gold 100. Met quite a few fellow riders from my area and had a great time, well at least until mile 75 or 80 when the mountain bike started to become such a drag :) Anyway, captured a lot of great friends riding. While not nearly as hilly as some of the rides I have done or will be doing this year, it was quite a handful…
So riding partner Dougie and I decided to complete a cycling "ultra" as part of our training for Fool's Gold 100 this coming Fall and a possible bid on the Heart of the South 500 next spring. We started out at 5 am with the intent of riding 250 miles that day. We ended up having to cut it short at 213 miles when an afternoon thunderstorm cropped up. We were joined by some good friends during the day to help keep us company and safe. We were happy…
My Assault on Mt Mitchell documentary from Monday, May 16, 2011. I unfortunately had a real struggle on this ride. I wished I had captured better footage, but as I came unraveled, I became more focused on just finishing and less so on capturing all the details of the ride. I think I still caught the essence of the pain and suffering I seemed to put myself into. Its not pretty, but it is reality. Sometimes despite the best (or so I thought) preparation,…
Doug and Hacksaw race the 2011 Cheaha Challenge on Sunday, April 10. The race started in Piedmont, AL and was a ~100 mile out-and-back up and over Mt Cheaha. This was our last "organized" training build before The Assault on Mt Mitchell in North Carolina in mid-May. It was an unseasonably hot day, taking its toll on a fair number of the riders. Event support and route were great. Definitely an event worth putting on the regular rotation. It is billed…
Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
