Version 2 of Überdope Sony Alpha α77 Test - STZ Media 2013

I went to Kenya,
and decided to make a recap.
The α77 did a great job this time too!

All filters made with the α77's settings, the built-in, optical "SteadyShot" is used, and the camera is held by hand.

This is not a film... it's a project! I made the first attempt a couple of months ago. Then I showed it to my daughter in law, who is a pro photographer ( janniestentoft.dk/ ) and my son (vimeo.com/user1381460) and a friend.They gave some really fine advice and I made version 2. This version were showed to 5 skilled and fine friends here on VImeo (Pros and not-pros) who came up with more super advice. I tried all of it and followed most of it. So here it is, sort of exam project...
The friends? Sorry, I would like very much to tell the names, but I'm afraid, that I write their names, they'll have 100 wishes for help in the next 24 hours! But i can tell you, they are really fine friends and I have learned a lot from them. I'm sure, you have good Vimeo friends yurself.

IN DANISH: Dette er ikke en film, det er et 'eksamensprojekt'. Efter at jag havde lavet 1. version af filmen, viste jeg den til min svigerdatter, der er pro fotograf (janniestentoft.dk/) og min søn (vimeo.com/user1381460) samt en god ven. Derefter lavede jeg version 2 (bl. a. 2/3 længde af version 1). Den så 5 virkelig gode og dygtige Vimeovenner, pro og ikke pro, og deres kommentarer blev efterprøvet - og de fleste brugt. Resultatet ser I her.
Vimeovennerne: Jeg tør ikke skrive hvem de er, for så får de 100 forespørgsler i det næste døgn. Men jeg kan fortælle, at det er virkelig fine venner og jeg har lært en masse af det her. Du har sikkert selv gode venner at spørge.

It's not easy to come up with something new when you visit the same place every year for more than a decade. Over the years Marsel has created the most extensive and most popular night photography portfolio of Namibia on this planet, and two years ago he decided it was time to take it to the next level.

The idea was to create a night photography timelapse video featuring his most popular subjects in this amazing country: the fairytale-like quivertrees and the eery, dead camelthorn trees in Deadvlei - something that had never been done before. But instead of going for static scenes, Marsel decided to add movement to the scenes by using a dolly system.

All scenes were shot during the night with Nikon D3, D3s and D4 cameras. We used small headlights for selectively lighting trees and rocks, and we sometimes used the moon. The brighter the scene, the more moon there was at the time. For the arch scene we timed our shoot exactly with moonset, which involved quite a bit of calculating and planning. But the hardest one of all was probably the mist scene in Deadvlei. Mist in Deadvlei only occurs around five times a year, so we had to keep a close eye on the weather predictions and many attempts were unsuccessful. When we finally got it right, the results far exceeded our expectations and show Deadvlei as no one has ever seen it before.

Each second of video consists of 30 photographs. In total, Marsel shot more than 16,000 images over a period of two years for this project.

The video won First Prize in the 2012 Travel Photographer Of The Year Awards.
