HD Nature Shorts

  1. Please watch full screen in HD to see dozens of meteors zip across the sky! Turn up the volume to enjoy Justin Durban's beautiful soundtrack!

The annual Geminids meteor shower is nature's natural fireworks show. This year's shower is unique because it took place close to a full moon. While the bright moon washed out some of the weaker meteors, it also lit up the landscape and casted beautiful moving shadows. Perfect conditions for timelapse filmmaking!

In this film you'll see dozens of meteors against a foreground of joshua trees, rock formations, and the winter night sky. There's also lightning, sunrises, sunsets and some beautifully shot day to night and night to day timelapse sequences.

This film was shot completely in 5K raw. It was made by a small talented crew of timelapse newbies over a 5 day timelapse workshop I taught in Joshua Tree. We hope you enjoy our efforts!

All shots are available for licensing.

    About the workshop:
Taught by timelapse filmmaker Henry Jun Wah Lee, participants learned how to shoot everything from static to motion-controlled, day to night, and astro timelapses. The 5 day workshop also covered how to process raw 5K images into Ultra HD resolution 4K videos.

Special thanks to Eric Kessler and the crew at Kessler Crane for supplying the motion control devices for our participants. Shot with Kessler Pocket Dolly, Cineslider, Shuttle Pod Mini, Shuttle Pod, 3 axis Cinedrive, and Oracle controllers.

We would also like to welcome and thank our new sponsor, LRTimelapse. Gunther generously provided the software we used to help process our timelapse sequences.

On Sunday, November 17th, 2013, an EF4 tornado touched down in Washington, Illinois, destroying as many as 400 homes.

Leaving Monday night from Indiana, I arrived in Washington around 4am Tuesday morning. As the sun rose, I began seeing the debris left in the tornadoes wake. After sunrise, I was able to enter the town to see some of the damage. Because of safety concerns, the curfew for the city was from 6pm until 7am. I stayed in town for two days shooting video and timelapse. At the end of the second day, I felt that I was starting to intrude by filming, and decided I had what I could get.

Motion Control was achieved using the Kessler Crane Cineslider paired with CineDrive.

  4. It was one hell of a journey during the fourteen months making Wyoming Wildscapes II, my second and final Wyoming related time lapse project. Had plenty of adventures while working on this. Lightning almost got me a couple of times this summer, gear froze up in the winter (literally), and broke a few times (don't think most of the time lapse gear was meant for extended wilderness backpacking), all that fun stuff. Despite any minor set backs, this was without a doubt one of the most fulfilling personal projects I've ever undertaken. Saw some pretty amazing stuff along the way, this part of the country never ceases to amaze and surprise me.

  5. This timelapse video is a collection of footage shot over the last year and a half around the western half of the United States. The shots ranged from very different locations. From Montana to Arizona and most weren't easy to get to but of course that makes them worth going to. The locations captured ranged in temps of 100 degrees to -9 degrees and in elevations of 12,000 feet to 225 feet below sea level. It took over 15,000 captured still images to make this video.

I would like to thank the companies that provided motion control equipment.

The TB3 eMotimo that I used along with the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero was a huge help in getting some of these shots.
