For The Diary of the One Who Disappeared I mostly used photos of Eastern Europe taken by Alison McBurney. I treated these images by inverting them, desaturating them, and then layering different colors on top of them. I wanted this landscape to look surreal to reflect the intense way the character in this song cycle views his surroundings. The text was created with watercolors and pencil and then scanned.

Here are some examples of my projection design work from the past two years. Most of them are excerpts from Beyond The Score and were created for The Chicago Symphony Orchestra. A couple of them are from Chicago Opera Theater's production of HE/SHE.

This imagery was designed to support (NOT distract from) live performers and to be presented in a very large scale. This visual language is the invention of an artisic team consisting of Gerard McBurney, Alison McBurney, and myself.
