Once a bustling fishing village, Chek Geng, the place where my father was born is now derelict - home to wild monkeys, oxen and rabid dogs. Most of the population abandoned the village in the 60s to look for work elsewhere. Most of my family on my father's side went as far as to Ireland and the United Kingdom. As our elders grow older, my generation of family members took great interest in our heritage.
I visit there when I can as that's also where my ancestors are buried. The grave you see in the video was actually rebuilt in 2010. Before it was nothing more than a ditch, hidden away in the mountain surrounded by thick trees and foliage.
The village has great potential if it were ever renovated. Surrounding it is a picturesque seafront, hiking trails and leads to Hong Kong's greatest beach and surfing haven, Tai Long Wan. If you live or visit Hong Kong and want to visit Chek Geng, go to Sai Kung and take the no. 94 bus all the way to Shek Kong pier. There are several waterborne…

I first watched Manga's cult classic "Ghost in the Shell" when I was a teen but only recently realised that the film's city background is actually based on Hong Kong - my current place of residence.
When it was made in 1995, it depicted a grimy, futuristic city. Now, 16 years later, it's interesting to see how Hong Kong has physically changed. So I set out to try and recreate particular scenes from the film. The biggest differences between the film and now is that Hong Kong no longer has those awesome low-flying airplanes (airport moved in 1998) nor do we have canals and river boats - though we do have tramcar systems which is the obvious influence for Masamune. Not every shot could be faithfully recreated. Simply because it was an animation! But when you do a comparison there are the obvious locations: http://vimeo.com/33731256
I left the scenes with Motoko Kusanagi for narrative reasons (and I couldn't…
This is my little dream to make a timelapse short clip which is about my city -- Hong Kong .
The whole project lasted around half a year .
At the first step , I found that motion-dolly sells online are quite expensive .
So I started to do researches / build up parts for the 2-axials motion dolly /
assemble them onto the slider / adjust a better accuracy .
It's some kinda troublesome jobs .
But no wonder , the longest part of the project must be taking out those gears ,
sight seeing , setting up the GH2 and waiting for the shots at different spots .
It's a bit hard . But I'd really enjoyed .
Hope you can share me 5mins to share my little dream .
Songs : Radical Face - Welcome Home
Camera : GH2
Lens : Panasonic 14140mm + 25mmF1.4
Pics : Around 30,000 pictures .
Shot a little montage while waiting between photo shoots. Let's just say it's my tribute to my neighbourhood that always gets overlooked by Hong Kong Island - i.e. Where everybody goes to get skyline shots.
Footage taken with Sony NEX-5N (25p) on Vivid setting with Tokina 28-70mm (I wish I had my anamorphic lens...). Great little camera but aliasing is atrocious.
Shot from the 42nd floor of Langham Hotel, Kowloon.
That day was typhoon season.
Kowloon 九龍 (literally translates to nine dragons) is a major urban area of Hong Kong. And in many retrospects, is the 'heart' of Hong Kong. You want those long narrow streets laden with funky neon signs? Triad gangs? Night markets? Good curry?? Inspirations that created Gotham City??? It's Kowloon, baby.
Music: Main Theme from Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Taken during an Instagram meetup (#Instatram #Tramyay #hk) in Hong Kong.
Shot with a Panasonic GH2 and Lomo 10mm T2.8.
Shutter speed 25, ISO 640, Aperture T3.5.
Music: "Howlin' For You" by Black Keys
Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
