Professor Emilie Amt is a historian whose research focuses on medieval women. For her, the most exciting part of research is the detective work, putting the pieces together and seeking out answers to further our knowledge about civilizations and the people who lived long ago.
Students have the opportunity to make similar discoveries themselves. Students can be selected to participate in Summer Research Institute or write departmental honors papers, and all history majors do original research for the senior seminar class.
Professor Amt’s classes are filled with discussions that encourage critical thinking and debate and students who major in one of the liberal arts learn valuable lifelong skills—research, information literacy, organization and public speaking.
