This tutorial looks at how to use a popsolver to shape a fluid simulation so that a fluid object transforms into a second fluid object.
This second part looks at improving our simulation by creating a secondary splashing effect.
NOTE: about a quarter of the way through there is an error - the step of creating some empty geometry and then creating an empty fluid from that is unnecessary. In fact the emit fluid shelf tool will create an empty fluid for you.

This tutorial looks at how to use a popsolver to shape a fluid simulation so that a fluid object transforms into a second fluid object.
This first part looks at the basic setup, creating points that fill the letters, using an attractor pop and using the ability of the flip fluid solver to turn off solving for a subset of particles, a feature that allows us to reduce jiggle.

Note: in H12 you will need to turn off reseeding particles on the flip solver for this to work. I've included an H12 scene in the project file.
*NOTE THE METHOD OF SOURCING SMOKE HAS CHANGED IN HOUDINI 12 SO YOU CAN NO LONGER FOLLOW THIS VIDEO EXACTLY*
This video takes you through the scene file used to create the effect of dry ice flowing down over some letters. It uses the advanced characteristics of the apply_source node to create bespoke sources and sinks for the gas, and uses the gas dissipate microsolver to make the gas evaporate as it warms up. The scene file is at http://sites.google.com/site/pqhoudinitutorial/.
It is worth watching the Sourcing and Smoke series of videos and, if you are starting from scratch, the Volumes series before this video.

A look at the new methods of sourcing smoke and liquids in Houdini 11.

Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
