Kdenlive is part of major GNU/Linux distributions. To install, run synaptic package manager, select Kdenlive and click on the Apply button.

Kdenlive is an open source video editor for GNU/Linux, which supports various formats including DV, HDV and AVCHD (feedback needed). It is very intuitive and powerfull. Kdenlive relies on MLT framework, a video solution designed for telebroadcasting, and ffmpeg video and audio codecs.
