In this tutorial we'll build up a displaced surface using layered noise maps. After that we'll create a wet looking surface & water shader for the deep section. Finally we'll take care of some basic lighting & colour correction in After Effects. The free project file is available here:

Continuing from his progress on Day 1, Casey demonstrates the creation of the Life Stream and Fire effects for the meteor using X Particles 2. You’ll learn how the Hair Render and Scene Motion Blur can be used to effectively render smooth particle trails. You’ll also learn various techniques for building and caching an X-Particles simulation.
