WHY "ExtraBold." is more than a book?
“ExtraBold” is the compendium of all the imagery of Serial Cut™, a Spanish design studio established in Madrid in 1999 by Sergio del Puerto, that focuses on art direction for international projects.
The book was published worldwide in September 2012 by Index Book & Page One (Asian edition) and contains 320 pages, printed on different kinds of paper, showcasing more than 150 projects from the early years up to the present time.
ExtraBold® is more than a book: some pages recognize AUGMENTED REALITY technology, which can be used with the freely downloadable "ExtraBold" APP for iPhone and iPad; it connects to the following media content:
18 3D VIRTUAL FIGURES
14 MAKING OF VIDEOS
16 COMMERCIAL VIDEOS
11 ZOOM IMAGES
3 NAVEGABLE WEBSITES
This is the first time that a design book has used this technology to display more than 3D figures (as many magazines and books have already done), for it connects to extra multimedia content.
The studio invited their 9 international artists/designers/studios to make an original piece. They began by choosing an artwork from the Serial Cut™ portfolio and then made a REMIX in their own style; these an open interpretations of the Serial Cut™ world are by:
Alex Trochut (Spain)
Julien Valleé (Canada)
Romain Lenancker (Sweden / France)
Mr. Oso (Spain)
Studio Output (United Kingdom)
The book will cost €35/$45 (+ shipping if you buy online).

Compilation of student work from our Eye,Robot Seminar at SCI-Arc Fall 2012.
Course: Eye,Robot : Introduction to Robotics
“Eye, Robot” focuses on the intersection of computation, robotic fabrication, and cinematography. The course explores robotic motion control as a creative medium for designers, mainly through the use of the custom robotic animation software platform, designed specifically for the SCI-Arc Robot House. The platform has the unique ability for the designer not only to design motion, but also to program, simulate, and speculate all at the same time. This type of animation space suspends the distinction between simulation, speculation, and ‘the real’, making it very hard for one to determine which is which while questioning traditional notions of architectural representation.
