  3. A chance to play with the new Canon C300 Cinema EOS Camera leads to three hours of collaborative filming on a wet January 2012 evening at Felt Boston by members of the Boston Creative Pro User Group - BOSCPUG.

PLEASE SEE THE SPECIAL THANKS for all good people involved below!

    "HUSTLE"
What started out with friends as a CAMERA TEST with no script, shot list or idea turned into a quick creative confab and a three minute short set to original music and cut to the groove of a hustle in action.

Note: Dig the Boston filmmaking scene? Check out Rob Bessette's excellent work as a Colorist (Rob graded HUSTLE) with before and after shots: vimeo.com/37273327

Scott Simmons has just posted more insight into the making of Hustle with "The C300 short Hustle and some before and after images" over at ProVideoCoalition.com -
    provideocoalition.com/index.php/ssimmons/story/the_c300_short_hustle_and_some_before_and_after_images/

Also check out another collaborative effort by Paul Antico (anticipatemedia.com): "THE COST" - again shot on the Canon C300 and with Rick Macomber of macomberproductions.com - Watch now at: vimeo.com/37151341

And expect more collaborative work and visual storytelling (not camera tests) from all involved here moving forward!

Thanks to Rick, Ben, Chris, Don and to Baylee our lovely star! And to Norman Lang, Todd Mahoney and to Mike Sutton and Kessler Crane for use of the Kessler KC-Lite Crane - and to our "other" star of the short - FELT BOSTON

Minimal lighting was used to explore the exposure capability of the Canon C300 and to retain the milieu and mood inside of Felt Boston's Billiards Hall.

Again stressing it was several D.P.s getting together to check out the camera for the first time!

All footage was captured using Canon C-Log Gamma mode.

    Lenses used were Canon "L" Series glass: 14mm, 35mm, 16-35mm, 50mm, 85mm

Glidecam 4000HD was used for stabilizer shots.

Kessler KC-Lite Crane was used for crane shots.

Kessler Pocket Dolly was used for dolly shots.

Edited in Final Cut Pro 7 just PRIOR to Canon releasing their XF Plugin for FCPX (would have been edited in FCPX otherwise).

Graded in DaVinci Resolve by Rob Bessette at Finish Post to test the dynamics of the Canon C300's XF codec, which held up beautifully with no issues through finishing.

Tim Montgomery of Finish Post used Smoke to remove an orange AC cable from three shots in the background and to show how well Canon's C300 XF codec stood up in post.

Original music recorded in Logic by Chris Loughran with Chris on guitars and keyboards and Rockin' Rick Macomber on Harmonica.
