The musk ox population at Dovre was introduced from Greenland. Ten animals were released in 1932, but they died within a few years. After 1947, a total of 21 animals were released, which in time have bred and produced more. In the period 2010 – 2012 the musk ox population has risen from 240 to approx. 300 animals.
