Sean Starkweather contributed to a portion of design and practically animated the entire thing on his own. And we popped Nosaj Thing's sound design cherry. sounds sick.

Strata #1

“Strata #1” is an audio-visual installation that explores the icons of Rome’s renaissance architecture and focuses on the layering of times, functions and representations.
Through sound and visual effects, “Strata #1” concentrates on the collective imagery of particular buildings, reflecting upon the stratified historical meanings they detain in the western society through time.
A rotating ceiling is inhabited by a computer-generated particle system. The latter moves and behaves in relation the sound, coexisting harmoniously with the surrounding architecture. The video environment created within the installation becomes a hybrid between a real architectural space and an abstract two-dimensional pattern: a new space in-between the real and the artificial.
In a dynamic dialogue between sound, image and architecture, the installation plays with history and its image, giving life to a process of metamorphosis which transforms structure and function of the original architectural space. Assuming different meanings, the represented ceiling appear under a new perspective that focuses on their images rather than their historical and architectural significance.

New York Times: Turkish Edition

This is our one minute advertisement for the launch of Turkish Edition of The New York Times.

We constructed typographic versions of the most recognizable landmarks in Manhattan and Istanbul, and created a compact tour taking the audience from the New York Harbor all the way to the Bosphorus. Actual pages from the first issue of the newspaper were used to create the textures used in the scenes. The financial news page became NYSE and Wall Street, entertainment news turned into Times Square, and so on.

The result is 60 seconds of typographic goodness, mastered in 2K cinema resolution.

Clavilux 2000 - Interactive instrument for generative music visualization

The Clavilux 2000 is an interactive instrument for generative music visualization, which is able to generate a live visualization of any music played on a digital piano. The setting of the installation consists of three parts: A digital piano with 88 keys and midi output, a computer running a vvvv patch and a vertical projection above the keyboard.

For every note played on the keyboard a new visual element appears in form of a stripe, which follows in its dimensions, position and speed the way the particular key was stroke. Colours give the viewer and listener an impression of the harmonic relations: Each key has it's own color scheme and "wrong" notes stand out in contrasting colors.
All stripes stay and overlap each other in an additive way, so at the end a kind of pattern remains – a summary of the music – which will be always unique since the notes of the composition aswell as the interpretation of the piano player are influencing the outcome. Furthermore the piano player can switch between the standart 2d view and an additional 3d view of the visualization while playing.

Tilted Productions 'Trapped'

'Trapped' is a very different work, in terms of scale and story, but it is no less impressive in every respect. With minimal set and exposition the company create a convincing world of pervasive surveillance, government interference and subtle intimidation. It speaks of both today's world, covered in CCTV cameras and government snooping, and the almost comical behaviour of the East German security services before the Berlin Wall came down.

This is the first few minutes from the 15 minute single screen version of Heliocentric. The full version consists of four timelapse pans each spanning the entire solar day.

HD multi-screen installation and single screen version.

Heliocentric is co-commissioned by AV Festival + Northern Lights Film Festival, UK. The single screen version will premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2010 in competition. The multi-screen installation will premiere during AV Festival 2010, at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland, UK. Heliocentric uses time-lapse photography and astronomical tracking to plot the sun's trajectory across a series of landscapes. The entire environment feels to pan past the camera whilst the sun stays in the centre of each frame, enabling us to gauge the earth's rotation and orbit around the sun. As the Suns light becomes disrupted by passing weather conditions and the environment through which we encounter it, it audibly plays them as if it were a stylus.

It is usually all but impossible to visualize how the earth moves around the sun, even though we know it to be true. Instead we 'see' the sun move around us. The 'heliocentric' view of the universe was debated from the third century BC onwards and remained contentious into modern times.

Shooting into the sun creates many intriguing artifacts; lens flares and glare spill over the landscape, white outs burn the image, and colours bleed into one, creating aureoles. The power of the sun still exceeds what both the human eye and the artificial eye of the camera can bear. And whilst our knowledge of the universe is ever-growing, we can only encounter and know it from our own humble vantage point.

OFFF NYC Titles

Directed by myself and Rob Chiu the OFFF New York Titles were produced for the OFFF 2007 Festival held at the Tribeca Performing Arts Centre, NY. Our titles where shot over a 2 day period as we ran around the city trying to capture a 'New Yorker's' New York. Aside from the title production we also spoke at the event alongside the likes of Prologue, Tronic & Commonwealth.
