James Aagaard came to Northwestern as a freshman in the fall of 1948…and he never left.
During his 63 years as a Wildcat, Aagaard earned three degrees, served on the faculty of the McCormick School of Engineering and worked as a staff member at University Library for more than 40 years.
When Aagaard officially retired in April, his library coworkers organized a celebration to honor his legacy and created a Wikipedia page to commemorate his greatest contribution -- the Northwestern Online Total Integrated System (NOTIS) -- an online cataloging system that revolutionized the way libraries manage their collections.

Masahito (“Mas”) Sugihara, a saxophonist and lecturer at Northwestern University's Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music, is organizing a charity music concert to raise money for disaster relief in Japan. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. The event is Wednesday, April 6, in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive.

Northwestern's Dance Marathon raised more than $1 million for the first time in the event's history.
The grand total was $1,019,130, including cash and in-kind donations. This year's primary beneficiary, the Children’s Heart Foundation, received $632,689.20. The Evanston Community Foundation also received a check for $70,298. More than 900 students--another DM record--danced in the 30-hour event.
