GSI Outdoors personal java press is a great addition to any camp kitchen. At 10.8 oz this light weight insulated carafe with nesting plunger and 17 fl oz insulated mug with sip lid is best used for car camping and non-ultralight backpacking.
I purchased this GSI java press at Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington, VT for a weekend cabin camping trip. There is enough room in the nested mug to store the coffee grounds in a plastic bag.
To make coffee add 5 tablespoons of fine ground coffee to the carafe. Next boil 20oz of water and remove from heat for about 20 sec and then add it to the grounds. Gently stir the grounds for 10 seconds and then put the cover with plunger back on the carafe to keep the coffee warm. Let the coffee steep for 3 to 5 min, depending on how strong you like your coffee, then slowly press the plunger down until it stops. Now the coffee is ready to serve. The plunger works great to get ground-free coffee. To make a second batch I added a few tablespoons of coffee to the existing grounds and brewed again.
