Picnic Publishing House was found in 2007. The aim is to provide a printed and exposition format for contemporary culture, mainly urban art, illustration and photography. We believe that this format is a good way of bringing society closer to the interests and thoughts of new artists.
The catalogue is based on the quality and selection of young authors, with points of reference that amplify the vision of reality, to bring to light those views that so often remain hidden. And so AAAAA emerges, published in black and white, a collection of illustration and literary books bringing together the work of four graphic designers and one writer for each book, a series of zines in both colour and black and white, sometimes monographic, and at other times it becomes the backbone of collaborative projects among various artists and creators, and the next publication of graphic novels.
We take pride in our originality and we print limited editions, thereby guaranteeing a product that, although produced industrially, maintains a significant degree of exclusivity. In this way, we can cover a market with little competition in Madrid and one that a certain type of client has been demanding for quite some time now. At the same time, it gives us the opportunity to launch our products in other large-scale publishing cities associated with the world of illustration and urban and experimental culture such as Barcelona, Berlin and New York.
From this editorial project, Picnic has organised Ink 01, Encuentro Internacional de Ilustración, and various exhibitions in galleries and museums relating to contemporary culture in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao, dedicated to showing the work of artists who have collaborated on AAAAA. In this way, we have managed to put together a catalogue of works based on urban art and illustration, with names such as Lorenzo Petrantoni, Eduardo Recife, Fefe Talavera, Remed or Sauerkids. A meeting place for artists from different countries that represent the current view of the world on illustration and urban art.
For Picnic the goal, and more importantly the main task, is to increase prospects of bringing in new works, of encouraging creativity and of recovering the lost resources of the art world.
