Welcome to the Planetary Science Channel on VIMEO!
On this channel you will find films related to the field of Planetary Science: the study of the planets of our Solar System. It is a very exciting and interdisciplinary field of work that combines knowledge from other areas such as astronomy, geophysics, atmospheric science, etc..
Many of the films have an educational angle, some are more documentary. In all films the scientists themselves are the main communicators. All films are either english spoken or english subtitled.
You will also find talks by the world top planetary scientists, that were edited in a new way, adding unique value to the presentation.
You can find five other channels on VIMEO dedicated to Planetary Science. Four of these contain most of the talks that were presented during the conference Cassini-Huygens Project: Huygens Legacy and Future Titan Exploration, which was held from 13-15 of January 2010 in Barcelona. See vimeo.com/channels/huygens2titan1
and the three links therein.
There are a few of the presentations included in this channel too.
And there is the channel dedicated to the Rosetta's Comet Touchdown project, an educational project around the ESA Rosetta Lander using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®. See vimeo.com/channels/rosettascomettouchdown. Three of the five films are on this channel too.
About filmmaker Maarten Roos (Lightcurve Films):
I was a planetary scientist for many years. In 2006 I switched career to become a filmmaker. Planetary science has logically been a major theme of my films, that in some instances provide with a unique view behind the scenes that you will not find anywhere else. Also, you can be sure the content of what you see is correct at the time the film was made (this being a field of cutting edge research, our understanding of things does change!).
And there are more stories to tell!
