Plink Flojd

  1. Video by Andrew Benson, Remix by Yoshi Sodeoka.

Andrew Benson is a visual artist and performer based in San Francisco, CA. Central to his experimental electronic work is a playful usage of interconnected systems and feedback, exploring how the body and psyche relates to technology and networked experience. His work combines animation, custom interactive software, and complex video processing to create work that toes the line between abstract expressionism and mimetic representation and narrative. As an extension to his studio work, Andrew has worked as Live Video Designer/Director for a number of high profile musical acts. He has been teaching electronic media courses at SFAI since 2008 and is a long-time contributor to Cycling '74 Software.

  2. Video and Remix by Yoshi Sodeoka.

A psychedelic homage to the film "Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii" directed by Adrian Maben.

Yoshi Sodeoka is a multidisciplinary artist and musician from Yokohama, Japan, who’s lived and worked in New York for more than two decades. Sodeoka’s projects have been shown all over the world, from London's Tate Britain, New York City's Deitch Projects, The Creators Project’s La Gaîté lyrique in Paris, Edinburgh’s MU, São Paulo’s Rojo Nova, Barcelona’s OFFF, Baltimore Museum of Art, London's OneDotZero, Barcelona's Sonar Festival, Haifa Museum Israel, Berlin's Transmediale and Whitney Museum of America's Art, Artport. 3. Video by Rollin Leonard, Remix by Yoshi Sodeoka.

Rollin Leonard earned a BA in Philosophy and a BFA in Painting from the University of Minnesota in 2007. He has shown large-scale video installations, paintings, photographic prints, and web-based work since 2004. His medium varies but his conceptual approach is consistent -- projecting the logic, meaning, or pattern from one domain into another, often using the human body as a vehicle to do so.

  4. Video by Lorna Mills, Remix by Yoshi Sodeoka.

"Money2" by Lorna Mills and Yoshi Sodeoka is a brief, merciless video assembled from Lorna Mills's found and altered animated gif collages. These looping animations play against a soundtrack by Plink Flojd, a super audiovideo collective started by David Quiles Guillo with co-founders Yoshi Sodeoka and Eric Mast.

"Money2" is the cacophonous, dysfunctional, absurd, idiotic sequel to Pink Floyd's classic “Money”. The band’s original version from the 70’s exhorted their audience to reject wealth and conspicuous consumption, while at the same time launching them into the stratosphere of commercial success.

Pink Floyd's "Money" remains an enormously popular song, despite the fact that all of the ideas about capitalism embedded in the song are now four decades out of date. Money2 expands the original imagery to include the darkness, desperation, folly and anxiety that surrounds wealth and the lack of it.

By pairing a mashed, mangled musical version with found then re-arranged animated gifs, Pink Floyd’s “Money” is revived and buried alive at the same time.

Canadian artist Lorna Mills has actively exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions since the early 1990's, both in Canada and Internationally. Her practice has included obsessive Ilfochrome printing, obsessive painting, obsessive super 8 film & video, and obsessive animated GIFs all incorporated into restrained installation work.

—The name sounds like Pink Floyd. Is this just another tribute project?
Not at all, it’s more than that. Although we were originally inspired by Pink Floyd, we take the homage to the next level and make a new art form. Some of our works show traces of the influences of Pink Floyd, some show none. Anything goes with Plink Flojd.

—Will you guys only be making videos?
Hopefully not. We are planning to expand. Some of the projects might surface as installations, live performances, conceptual art, etc. You name it. If the idea is right, we will do it.
