best way to learn for me is to do.
so I got all handsy with the camera and shot this.
big mix of lenses. had a great time.
Compression is the reason for noisy blacks. not the camera.
Working with http://www.productionelementsinc.com, we produced a video that highlighted the four areas of focus for the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) at UCLA. This video played at the 2012 Taste For A Cure event on April 20, 2012. It was filmed on a Sony F3 and a Canon 7D.
'Return of the Sun' is a portrait of a modern Inuit family. Set against the fearsome North Greenland landscape, the film follows a fisherman and his son as their lives are forced to adapt with the Arctic environment.

When we were asked to tell the story of how the UN introduced cholera to Haiti we were stumped on the creative front. We turned to Haitians, heard their frustrations, demands, and put those thoughts on paper. To keep all of those thoughts concise we used titling, music pacing, and contrasted the hurt Haitians are facing with the beautiful images shot by Bill Thomas (the project's DP).
We kept the color correcting and 'look' simple. Just punched up Bill's image, and threw a few highlights where the sun casted hard shadows. We didn't want to take away from Haiti's pretty colors by turning it into a an Instagram slideshow.
Shot on the F3, color corrected with Colorista II and highlights made with MBL. Cut on FCP7.
