Potlatch Presents

  1. We met up with Adam and Patrick of Brainstorm after one of their many sets at SXSW this year. We chatted over tacos and Lone Stars and found a way to meet up here in LA as they made their way back to Portland.

They brought their visceral and playful sense of eclectic indie rock to bear on a balmy Echo Park rooftop just before the rain started to pour. We expected something stripped down due to the circumstances but were blown away by their searing, plugged-in rendition of “Split The Lark”, one of several in a batch of new material. We’re just glad the roof didn’t cave in.

Special thanks to Campbell Scarborough for being kind enough to loan us his roof in exchange for the gentlemanly offer of 59¢ tacos and a case of beer.

A Potlatch is a festival or ceremony practiced among indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest coast. At these gatherings different events take place, like either singing and dancing, spiritual ceremonies (sometimes with masks or regalia), and/or the barter of wealth through gifts. It is important to note the differences and uniqueness among the different cultural groups and nations along the coast. Each nation, tribe, and sometimes clan has its own way of practicing the Potlatch so as to present a very diverse presentation and meaning.
