People Reaching Out, Inc. has been named one of three recipients of the 2011 National Exemplary Award for Innovative Substance Abuse Prevention Programs, Practices, and Policies for its Valley Hi Community Mobilization Project. The award was established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSA), the federal Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and the National Association of State Alcohol/Drug Abuse Directors.
The National Exemplary Award recognizes quality substance abuse prevention efforts from around the country to showcase evidence-based, state-of-the-art programs that may be replicated by others.
For the last 6 years People Reaching Out has delivered innovative transformational results through it’s Valley Hi Community Mobilization Project in South Sacramento. The axis models for community coalition development, youth leadership and peer mentoring programs were found to effectively impact the reduction of youth substance abuse and violence, and to, effectively increase youth connectedness to school, community and family.
