Project Horus is a high altitude helium balloon flight group based out of Adelaide, South Australia. Initially founded in late 2009, the group has to date conducted 20 flights over the last 2 years sending camera, radio telemetry, radio communications and environmental sensor platforms to altitudes exceeding 100,000 feet (>30km). This is a region that is little explored and has over the past couple of years yielded some surprising flight results.

Australian band Skipping Girl Vinegar sent a hobo monkey (Baker) to the edge of space, in a low rent spaceship made from foam and gaffa tape. On the morning of Sat 27th Nov 2011, attached to a giant weather balloon, Baker and the onboard camera soared to 110,000 feet (4 times higher than Mt Everest) capturing the rolling image that is now part of this new film clip. Reaching speeds of over 200kmh and experiencing…
Project Horus is a high altitude balloon project based out of Adelaide, South Australia. The group has been launching balloons into the region of the atmosphere known as "near space" for over 2 years now. The latest launch was Horus 23, conducted on Sunday April 15th 2012.
The aim of this flight was to fly some amateur radio oriented payloads, including an FM Voice repeater (438.9MHz FM Uplink, 144.65MHz FM Downlink) as well as several telemetry…
Horus 22 was flown on Wednesday March 14th 2012 principally to allow Network 10 TV to make a segment for one of their kids science programs all about Project Horus.
For this flight, only the telemetry payload was flown. It was a good thing too, as the balloon went into float mode at ~ 34km altitude, drastically slowing it's ascent from approximately 4-5m/s to around 1m/s. It then began drifting west and slowly continued to climb to a shade over…
This was a micro-payload launch (50g weight limit) undertaken on the 20th of January 2012 as part of Linuxconf Australia. Project Horus gave a presentation at Linuxconf describing the project, and as part of this, they gave a live demonstration of their Micronut payload system.
The 50g weight limit is significant as it drops the flight into a different class as far as the regulators are concerned which simplifies various procedures.

Project Horus (http://projecthorus.org/) is a high altitude balloon experimenters group with the aim of flying helium balloons to altitudes of ~30km (>100,000ft). The group is based in Adelaide, South Australia and has been conducting flights now for nearly 2 years.
The flight of Horus 19 was a special payload - prepared for indie band "Skipping Girl Vinegar" (http://www.skippinggirlvinegar.com/), whom are based out of Melbourne. This is the "behind…
