The second installation of “Ramadan 29” project. Following the success of Ramadan 29 daily video documentation project, by Karim Shaaban, which ran through 29 episodes during Last Ramadan (2009 - 1430). This Ramdan (2010 – 1431) Ramadan 29 comes back, with more diversity, a new outlook and a new socio-perspective, taking an in-depth look at the social scene in Egypt during this holy month. Ramadan is a unique month in any Islamic community, and in Egypt, Ramadan has it's own cultural charm and inimitable social behaviors, Ramadan 29 is an attempt to capture this spirit and document it in video time. Last year, “Ramdan 29” was broadcasted through Facebook, instead this year, the second season of “Ramdan 29” will broadcast through Vimeo.com, because it is more suitable for the creative spirit of the "Ramadan 29" video documentation project. Ramadan 29 Selected Episode From Last Year A spiritual experience. We went to check out a place called "makan" we did not expect such a performance. As much as we wanted to film the show we wanted to sit and enjoy it more. We had talked to Sheikh Fayed Mohamed before his performance,and he was a genuine person he really liked what we were doing, and promised to give us more time after the show. although the inshad is not only an event that occurs in ramadan, but because this is such a holy month, the performance was uplifted by the spirit of the performers and the audience. at one point we were all chanting together. is was spiritual to some, others found it emotional, and some people see it as artistic. but we see it as a mix between art and spirituality

Ramadan 29 - 2010 - 1st Episode - The First Fajr Prayer in Ramadan

The Fajr or dawn prayer is the first of the five daily prayers recited by practicing Muslims. Last Year in Ramadan 29 we documented the Eid Prayers, which marked the end of Ramadan and captured a glimpse of how people wake up in the early morning to go to pray and celebrate Eid. This year we chose a very important moment for the first episode, the first Fajr Prayer that takes place on the first day of Ramadan. We went to a very special place called "Al-Rifa'i Mosque " Al Rifa'i Mosque is located in Cairo, Egypt, in Midan al-Qal'a, adjacent to the Cairo Citadel. The building is located opposite the Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, which dates back to around 1361, and was architecturally built to complement the older structure. This was part of a vast campaign by the 19th century rulers of Egypt to both associate themselves with the perceived glory of earlier periods in Egypt's Islamic history and modernize the city.
