No final gather here, it's my own technique (I haven't seen it anywhere else yet) using ambient occlusion to get something similar looking.
Render time was a little over 4 minutes per frame at 1280x720 on my quad core pc. The sequence is 176 frames in total.
I used the Mental Ray mia shaders, MoCap data imported from Motionbuilder to Maya and finally Nuke to apply the motion vector blur.

Myself and Stubbs made this short film last summer. Shot it on the Sony ex-1 in one day. Cg stuff took about a month of on and off work.
(The best shots are at 2:55 and 3:24, so just skip to there if you hate Muse)
The original soundtrack was stock and lame, so I put a better one on and accidentally created a music video.
The track is Undisclosed Desires by MUSE.

I learned some new techniques for reducing final gather flicker here, there is some fizzing because of the low sampling quality. I also used the Smart IBL plugin for the hdr and reflection maps. Comping was done in Nuke which handled the motion vector pass really well. Don't think I'll be using after effects anymore.

Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
