An intimate and mysterious film exploring the presentation of self and the ways in which we look at and see others. This film was developed in collaboration with Bonnie Friel and is a companion to the dance-theater piece, SHARE!
Hoops are commonly used for entertainment and aerobics but I have been fascinated by the way the hoop controls the movement of the body while simultaneously separating the body from the surrounding space.
Through my practice I am determined to master the hoop yet the intrigue lies in the shifts between controlling the hoop and letting it control me. There is no stillness while hooping. When I minimize my movement I see that more of myself is revealed. When I multitask, hooping while jumping, running, going to the floor, etc., I also reveal myself. Who I am is human, awkward, vulnerable--all aspects that I value in performance.
Performers: Gabrielle Revlock & Jacob Mitas.
Indivisibility debuted at the 2009 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival.
