This is our psychadellic opus. 30 minutes of experimental 16mm, hand-processed, black & white goodness. Scale this to 100%, turn up the sound, turn down the lights and get comfy.
My pal David and I started riding cross country on our motor-bikes chasing down UFO's and American road-mythology. The result is this film. It was our college thesis project and got good play at the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. We had always planned to make a new one but somehow we split ways in Alaska.
I'm really glad to get this one out into the open after all these years. I like checking in every once in a while to see how much my film style has evolved since those heady art-school days. In a big way, this trip & film combo was directly responsible for my eventual life in AK, and my first contact with environmental and native issues that persist with me in all of my current work. It's a trip. Enjoy!
Episode 1: 'Desert Daydreams' is a montage exploring terrain and trains in a day through the American Southwest. Watch for episodes 2-4 coming soon!
We're always excited when filmmakers and videobloggers utilize home movie footage we've made available on LostInLight.org. This week we're especially pleased to feature this gritty and stirring work by David Howell - in collaboration with Jack Kerouac.
Here's David's description:
Lead us to and take us away.
Guides to our memories.
Detours in our minds.
Clips featured: Idle Days - Painting with camera - Shades of Alaska - Under the new Mexican sky

Roughly 115 km which equates to about 1 hour 40 minutes travel compressed into 2 minutes and 47 seconds.
If only it took that long, I haven't driven in ages so my arms and legs were sore as.
