Maria Sabina was a Mazateca curandera (medicine woman) whose family had passed down the ancient traditions of the Mazateca people in secrecy for hundreds of years of Spanish suppression.
Her introduction to R Gordon Wasson in 1955 led to his recording and involvement in the practice of the Velada ritual, a ritual of psychedelic mushroom consumption that takes place in a totally dark room.
The audio of the Revelation of Maria Sabina uses the source material of Maria Sabina singing her invocations (recorded by Wasson) that are manipulated and mixed in conjunction with the creation of the video content. Both are analogues to the experience of the Velada ritual itself.
The video was created without using a "source" by circuit bending signal feedback to create the colour and light seen here. Much like the visual experience of the Velada the light comes from the darkness fed into an infinite loop.
This piece was created specifically for the Ambulante Festival in Oaxaca Mexico.

By viewing a video file as text and then editing that text by hand I am capable of purposefully corrupting the data in a way that utilizes the form of the original video content without actually showing that content. Much akin to video circuit bending the data is warped before playback and then presented to the viewer as something outside its original intent.
Language Virus is a multi channel video and sound collaboration between Raymond Salvatore Harmon and Philippe Petit, French sound abstractivist and Bip_Hop records proprietor.
This is an excerpt form the forthcoming dvd.
Released in 1982 by mail order only the First Transmission of The Temple ov Psychick Youth, the fictional cult of Psychic TV progenitor Genesis P.Orridge is often described as "brutal" and "unsettling". It was banned in several countries for its graphic depictions of ritual self mutilation and body modification.
The First Corruption utilizes the source material of the First Transmission pushed through a process of hand manipulating the data of a video file in order to create eruptive patterns of video distortion and corruption.
Violent and obscene footage is rendered into organic abstractions of color and form. Arrhythmic and twitchy these shapes evolve, bloom and disintegrate under the unfolding mathematics of the video codec.
