Soprano
Soprano Sandra Lopez, a graduate of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, has received accolades for her performances on both the operatic stage and the concert stage the world over. Among many others, she has received prizes and recognition from vocal competitions including first prizes at the Palm Beach Opera Competition and the Florida Grand Opera Competition, world finalist at the Pavarotti Competition, and is a career grant receipient from the McAllister Awards, the George London Foundation, and the Beau Bogan Foundation.
Ms. Lopez appeared to great critical acclaim as Catherine in the Metropolitan Opera's premiere run of William Bolcom's opera, A View from the Bridge, and has performed a wide variety of roles including Tosca, Cio-Cio-San, Mimi, Nedda, Tatiana, Marguerite, Micaela, Violetta and Lauretta with companies that include Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera de Oviedo, Opera Carolina, Nashville Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Berkshire Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, PORT Opera, Opera North (USA), among others. Ms. Lopez has collaborated with such renowned conductors as James Levine, Julius Rudel, Fabio Luisi, Yves Abel, Stewart Robertson, Thomas Sleeper, Katherine Kelly, Dennis Russell Davies, Donald Runnicles, Stephen Lord, Lawrence Gilgore, and Steven White, to name a few.
Recent engagements have seen Ms. Lopez as both Mimi and Desdemona with Opera Carolina, Tosca with Opera de Oviedo and Opera pa Skaeret (Sweden), and Micaela with the Cincinnati, Fort Worth, and San Antonio Opera companies.
Upcoming engagements include her return to San Antonio as both Nedda and her role debut as Suor Angelica, followed by her debut with the Virginia Opera in the title role of Madama Butterfly.
A graduate of the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Sandra Lopez will be honored as the 2010 Outstanding Alumna of the Year and will appear in the opening Gala of Festival Miami with the Symphony orchestra in a program that will include Strauss' Four Last Songs as well as Poulenc's Gloria.
She will also be heard in recital with tenor Stuart Neill with the "Sunday Afternoons of Music" series in Miami later this season.
