diti and anand have a thing for tropical islands so this was the perfect setting for their wedding; one of 3 celebrations taking them from chicago, to aruba, and india.
this was my second shoot in aruba this year and, just like the first, the sunsets were amazing, the rain was sporadic, and our lenses kept fogging up from the heat and humidity.

we've tried the merlin, pilot, flyer, and now the zephyr. across the line, the zephyr has got to be the easiest to setup, the most versatile unit to adjust in the field, the smoothest balanced, and a whole lotta fun.
just to demonstrate how much fun it is, at the end of this clip we tried no hands operating and we were all so surprised with how smooth those shots came out.
there is a disclaimer on this clip - it was super windy while we were shooting but we didn't have another time to shoot, so we made the best of it. if you like these results, i imagine i could have gotten more out of it had the wind not been so strong.
i often fly the flyer with a canon 7d and a 14mm rectilinear. the 14mm has a very short hyperfocal distance, so it is great for moving shots and keeping everyting in focus, and i love the look of the distortion versus a 16-35. on a 7d, with the crop, it isn't too too wide either, which is perfect. around the camera there is a cinevate cage and mattebox, used to provide…
shot mostly on the MKIV, also some 7d, and MKII in there. our first sde processed almost entirely in color. the last bit (the boat scenes) were done in FCP due to timing. this was out first time trying the z-finder and it was a huge help in the sun. we used to use the playback/check histograms method but having the z-finder was huge in nailing focus and not worrying about exposure.
a wedding bursting at the seams with epicness. as we entered ronald reagan's old ranch house for the ceremony, we saw wild horses running as the clouds rolled over top. while sailing on a catamaran for the reception, we passed by a buoy that had a good dozen seals resting on it, many of which actually turned on their side and waived as we went by. get this one, during their first dance, there just happened to be dolphins jumping only feet away.
transportation was an interesting theme for matthew and michelle's wedding. we rode in a van, stretch hummer, bus, jaguar, limo, catamaran, and a trolley.
thanks to…
There are so many ways to tell a story...
And so much a wedding symbolizes. So many questions it tends to raise: What is love? What is faith? It was our hope to explore these themes in a far more dramatically engaging way than we felt possible in a traditional documentary. Perhaps there is more within this story then meets the eye.
In the fall of 2009, Melissa & Samir embarked on an incredible journey to Udaipur, India, to fulfill a lifelong dream of having their wedding in the country of their ancestry. This transcendent place, affectionately called the "CITY OF LAKES," located in the breathtaking region of Rajasthan, would be the setting for their extravagant, three-day marriage celebration, and the backdrop of our unprecedented film production, shot entirely on-location. We believe this to be the first ever live event/scripted concept production 'hybrid' film ever produced on this scale. It was shot entirely on HDSLRs, the Canon 5D Mark II and 7D.
We hope you enjoy the trailer for…
a wedding film we shot and edited this past saturday in toronto for billy and melissa. this is an example of a same day edit, where the film is shown at the reception before the night is over.
