FUNDRAISER FOR MUSIC WORLD GREECE: kck.st/igqOsF
In the fourth episode of Music World we delve deeper into the world of the tango renaissance in Buenos Aires. This time, we speak with Verónica Bellini, the pianist in China Cruel, an all-woman tango orchestra. She talks with us about the problems the new tango movement faces because of the lack of support from the tourism industry. Nevertheless, the group strives to bring a fresh tango with modern-day themes to their audiences while invoking a feminist revenge on the traditionally chauvinistic genre.
In the second half of this episode, China Cruel performs at the trendy “La Catedral” milonga (tango dance hall) in the Almagro district of Buenos Aires. There are hundreds of milongas across the city, but this one has a festive, bohemian vibe not dissimilar to something you may find in Brooklyn today.
