This is an exploration on how to use GIF animations in VJ sets.

How to make images and video move to the beat in Modul8.

These are the modules I'm using:
- (at) BPM (Global) by Andy Teasdale (I use this one instead of the default BPM (Global) module from Garagecube).
- BPM Router (layer)

I think I made up the fact that Andy Teasdale lives in London, sorry about that.

A repeated question is how long the video clip should be. I use clips between 2-8 seconds. You have to test how your clip will work with the kind of music you are performing to. You might want to have the option to make it both fast and slow. If the clip is too short it will get really choppy when you play it slow (4/1 beat). And if you make it too long you might have problem making it fast enough for your fastest speeds (1/4 & 1/8 beat). If you normally perform to a certain kind of music it could be an idea to cut your clip to that kind of music to get the feeling for the right length.

I use the Photo JPG codec at 75% quality for my video clips.

This tutorial shows how to use TouchOSC together with Modul8 over CoreMIDI.

This is what you need:
- Buy Modul8 or download the demo* garagecube.com/modul8/
- Buy the TouchOSC app for your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch or from the app store. You must run iOS 4.2 or later to be able to use Core MIDI.
- Download the TouchOSC editor for OSX from hexler.net
- From within Modul8, download the "Two way MIDI (Udart)" module form the module library*.

* You can't download modules if you are running a demo version of Modul8. You can however skip the part with MIDI feedback.

iTunes2syphon is a iTunes visualizer that sends track information as an image to Syphon so that you can display the info in other Syphon enabled softwares.

The tutorial shows how to install the visualizer and how to display song name, artist, genre and year and show it in Modul8 and VDMX via Syphon. It also shows you how to modify the Quartz Composer visualizer source file to make it look the way you want.

This tutorial shows how to enable Syphon input in Modul8. The next version of Modul8 will have built in support for Syphon input which is faster. Meanwhile you can use this method.
