The RockSofa combines furniture, music, physical prototyping and programming into a concept prototype for the Guitars Museum opening in 2014 in Umeå. RockSofa's magic is exposed as soon as somebody sits on it. Immediately the RockSofa greets the visitor. After a person has sat down, it either recounts the stories it has witnessed during its life backstage in a concert venue. Or it plays short outtakes of famous music tracks.
The idea is, that each sofa has its own personality and character, not unlike rock stars themselves.
A large subwoofer built into the sofa's core structure allows people to experience the music using both their tactile and hearing senses. Depending on the orientation of the sofa elements, each RockSofa can either speak directly to the person sitting on it, or will engage in a social conversation with the other furniture around it.
The RockSofa also bears potential for usage in promotional situations outside of the museum.
Think about it, Ikea sells over 65 armchairs of all kinds, colours and shapes, but none of them can actually speak to you.
