Feb 3rd re-do cutting out the front photos which I was not happy w/.
Megan Jo Wilson was a guest on yesterday's Us Folk, a local talent who came in to plug her concert this same night here in Portland.
The track is a new one.
Megan Jo's got some serious musical chops and if you're into soul R&B she's got it going on especially fronting a band.
She's got a couple projects happening we should be more about soon a new Soul band called Soul Movement
her my Space page has some more fleshed out pieces.
The other complete track is here vimeo.com/620887
note; sound is sound board out synched to clip (camera sound deleted) posted with the permission of the artist.
This trio is awesome!
Not only do they play great music they are super cool.
I just got about a 1/4 of the song on video but wanted to include the entire track they played. Their Live recording "pinata" is high on the list of local Maine releases akin to national release worthiness.
This trio played as if "their feet were in three or four genres all at the same time"
They will be back, for sure.
Carl Dimow playing the bass flute in mid December of 2007 on Us Folk. Often found playing flute with the well seasoned klezmer and world music quintet The Casco Bay Tummlers CascobayTummlers.com .
Carl is a versatile and talented multi-instrumentalist teacher/performer/producer (he produced the Tummlers lastest album "Journey" which is world class world music the strength of which is it's breathe of repertoire.)
For several years we had planned on Carl one day coming in and playing on the show this was the day finally, a most enjoyable show.
Carl also plays in a duo collaborating with calssical guitarist Nathan Kolosko see; nathankolosko.com/collaborations_dimow.php
Local guitarist flute player Carl Dimow is more well know for his flute works (See; vimeo.com/459920 ) with his long time involvement with the Casco Bay Tummlers cascobaytummlers.com/
(See; vimeo.com/123780 )
Carl is also an adept guitarist who continues to teach @ Colby College and privately. His work with the Tummlers is a variety of Klezmer and world music, their latest "Journey" being a profound example of the exceptional talents of the local music community. Carl like many performers studied the early blues masters, John Hurt in this song, and revel in an opportunity to share their love of traditional acoustic blues which fall outside what most people know Carl for playing.
Carl's site is CarlDimow.com he says it's due for an update, he also has a duet guitar duo project happening which we hope to have the two guitarists on the show in 2008.
This local quintet has delighted audiences in and around the state for years, they even (well three of them) showed up @ our wedding and played for the appreciative crowds.
This was special since Peter who often is not available during the day came in for a rare appearance all joining forces to surprise us all with this tune written by Benny Andersson of ABBA for his wife Mona. Oddly enough this was the theme song of Barb's (percussionist) program for years & years and when heard most of Southern Maine check their watches since if it's that tune it's GOT to be time for her show here on Community radio in Portland, Maine.
Barb's theme song for her show has changed but can be heard wednesdays 10:30-12 noon @ WMPG.org
