A short medley of underwater video clips shot and edited together by Eric Cheng. Video was captured during the Wetpixel Ultimate Indonesia Expedition 2012 from Ambon to Kaimana (Triton Bay, Bird's Head Peninsula), including Banda and Momon. Footage shot using two cameras:
1. Canon 5D Mark III in Nauticam underwater housing with Magic Filter and manual white balance; XIT 404 tripod mount and telescoping tripod legs (when stabilized)
2. GoPro HERO2 in Dive Housing and Backscatter Flip-Up Color Correction Filter for GoPro
This video was filmed during a Backscatter expedition to Lembeh, Indonesia by Jeff Honda using Sola Nightsea Blue lights by Light & Motion. For more information about these lights, please visit: backscatter.com/sku/lmi-850-0213.lasso
This type of videography is possible using two elements - a blue light source to excite fluorescence from underwater organisms and a barrier filter to remove everything except the fluorescent light. Jeff Honda spent an entire week filming this, dedicating several hours each night meticulously setting up his tripod to capture these sequences. The amount of light being reflected back from the subjects is significantly less than what you would see using normal white light, so framing and exposures are significantly more challenging.
Underwater footage from a 26-day Wetpixel underwater photography expedition to Alor and Komodo, Indonesia. Footage taken by Eric Cheng with Canon 7D with Tokina 10-17mm fisheye zoom lens and Canon 100mm macro lens. Macro footage was lit with dual Light & Motion SOLA 1200 video lights. Additional footage captured with GoPro HERO cameras in modified Eye of Mine underwater 3D housings.
Super close-up video of the symbiosis between shrimp gobies and their nearly-blind alpheid shrimp partners. The shrimps dig their burrows, and the gobies stand guard. One shrimp antenna makes contact with the shrimp goby at all times when outside the burrow. Footage taken by Eric Cheng in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. December, 2010.
