Vancouver Art Gallery : Lectures and Talks

“We took what we needed from the Earth and this is what we left behind. That is the informational layer of my work, but there is also a political and an autobiographical one.” – Edward Burtynsky

The Vancouver Art Gallery presents Edward Burtynsky as the 2014 Heller Lecture. Known as one of Canada’s most respected photographers, his remarkable photographic depictions of global industrial landscapes are included in over 50 major museum collections around the world. The artist’s illustrated talk will explore his photographic practice with a focus on Water, his most recent photographic series, and his award-winning documentary Watermark.

Following his lecture, Burtynsky is joined on stage by human ecologist William Rees, and anthropologist Wade Davis for a discussion concerning the role of water in global ecological sustainability.

Generously supported by Paul and Edwina Heller in memory of Kitty Heller.
