With the World Match Racing Tour reaching its halfway point with four events complete and four remaining it was the stunning setting of Marstrand nestled in Sweden’s western archipelago which provided the arena for the fifth stage of the Tour. Was victory in Portimão a sign of a return to form for Ian Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar? Would hometown hero Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team cause a splash on home waters in his debut year as a Tour Card Holder? Could Francesco Bruni (ITA) Bruni Racing extend his lead at the top of the Tour standings? All the action – including one of the most thrilling finals so far this season – was played out in front of a crowd of more than 100,000 spectators.

After a slow start to the season could 2010 Korea Match Cup winner Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team give his 2011 campaign a much-needed boost? Could returning two-time World Champion Ian Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar shake up the standings? Thrills, spills, big wins and major upsets, and one of the most epic quarter finals in match racing – it was all there at the Korea Match Cup.

Fresh from a stunning victory on his home waters at Match Race France, Damien Iehl (FRA) French Match Racing Team Match Race travelled to Langenargen for Match Race Germany with a warning shot to his competitors. They included team mate and close friend Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team who will have to overcome Iehl this season if he is to claim the World Championship title that has so far eluded him. Tricky conditions on Lake Constance and a new fleet of Bavaria 40S boats would give the teams and their strategists plenty to think. Could Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR make it onto the podium? Would it be ‘a baptism of fire’ for the duo? Could a four-strong contingent of French teams seize the home advantage? The field of competitors included four-time World Champion Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing, last season’s most consistent performer and new Tour Card Holder Jesper Radich (DEN) Adrian Lee & Partners, and Torvar Mirsky (AUS) The Wave Muscat whose focus was on claiming his first Tour event win since 2009.
