Over the last 4 years the Greater Houston Convention and Visitor's bureau has had tremendous success in branding and promoting America's 4th largest city. The "My Houston" campaign has been seen all over the world in special presentations, on national TV, in movie theatres, in the Wall Street Journal.
VisitHoustonTexas.com recieves a steady stream of hits. Our city is now better understood, and postive perception of the city is at an all-time high.
GHCVB's latest non-traditional effort has been very well received. The project began as a video concept to present the flavor of the city's attractions in a format that would be both effective and fun to watch.
Working with production partner Zenfilm, the bureau landed on a concept to image Houston's highlights, attractions, nightlife and dining with a music video featuring talented local recording artists.
The Tontons were an easy choice having won the Houston Press Music Award for Best New Act in 2008 and with a brand new record "Kraken" on the shelves. The Tontons are: Asli Omar, Tom Nguyen, Adam Martinez and Justin Martinez. The song "Leon" is from the new Tontons record from Esthetic Noise Records. The album was recorded at SugarHill Recording Studios and produced by John Griffin.
Naturally the city of Houston was the location and lots of coordination came into play. The House of Blues provided the location for the Tontons performance and a wide variety of restaurants, clubs and other attractions gave access for filming. A complicated production path made smoother by the the Houston Film Commission and their talented team.In its first day of release, the video has been reviewed very well by the press and is enjoying lots of downloads on social media.
This video will be followed up by a Tontons video of the song that will be distributed to the national and international music networks by Zenfilm.
