Chloe Hodge is a film and installation artist recently graduated from Margaret Street School of Art Birmingham.
"My work is a combination of nostalgia, beauty and the uncanny, born out of a series of 8mm footage filmed across the world between 1948 and 1972. Through digitally manipulating this analogue footage into fictional narratives I hope to provoke a discussion as to how much we know about our own personal histories. Many memories are only constructed from assumptions or partly recalled stories, and my blurred paintings and split film pieces are intended to convey the fragmentary nature of memory.
My most recent works do not study the true narratives behind the footage but instead venture into the surreal, whereby characters perform bizarre actions and clips of footage are used to portray strange stories. This dreamlike quality is amplified by my installations which all derive from imagery within the footage and lead the audience into a world which has all but disappeared."
