Classical Revolution
Classical Revolution is more than an ensemble.
Classical Revolution is more than a presenting organization.
Classical Revolution is a global phenomenon, revolutionizing the way live classical music is programmed and heard.
The San Francisco chapter alone presents an average of 15-20 performance events each month.
Almost all of these events are free of charge and open to the public.
Classical Revolution has been featured in various publications including San Francisco Classical Voice, SF Weekly, SF Chronicle, Sunset Magazine, SOMA Magazine, Strings Magazine, and The New York Times.
Classical Revolution was founded in the fall of 2006 when several former and current San Francisco Conservatory of Music students met at Revolution Cafe in San Francisco's Mission District for public chamber music reading sessions.
After a few successful sessions, we were offered the weekly Sunday night slot.
Classical Revolution has presented chamber music events in venues all around the Bay Area, with the goal of presenting high quality performances in locations that are accessible to as many people as possible.
The concept has spread to other cities, with chapters and offshoots currently active in Portland, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Berlin, Cincinnati, Ann Arbor, Cleveland, Belgrade, Madison, Montreal, Toronto, and Washington DC.
Over 600 musicians have participated in Classical Revolution events in San Francisco alone.
These musicians come from a variety of backgrounds, from members of major symphonies and international concert soloists to amateur musicians who have found an outlet for their love of chamber music, to jazz and folk musicians whom we collaborate and share ideas with.
Collaboration is a huge part of what we do.
We not only collaborate with musicians from diverse fields, but also with painters, dancers, writers, filmmakers, and artists of other varieties.
