Crystle Clear Roberson
CRYSTLE ‘CLEAR’ ROBERSON was born in Germany and raised in the heart of Georgia. She has been a lover of the camera since high school where she enjoyed photography as a hobby. Her passion for filmmaking was sparked in college at Valdosta State University; where she graduated with a BFA in Mass Media. Since then, Crystle has enjoyed working on
theatrically released feature films such as Stomp The Yard, One
Missed Call, Daddy’s Little Girls, Why Did I Get Married, Motives 2,
Zombieland, Footloose, and Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green.
Crystle has also worked on several independent films,
commercials, documentaries, music videos, and several episodes of
hit television shows such as Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and
Vampire Diaries.
After long hours on set, Crystle’s dedication continued when she went home to write and direct her own film and video projects. On a sparse income, she succeeded at saving and raising money to financially support and shoot award winning short films that contained her personal vision. In 2006, she obtained a film grant from Kodak, which she used to shoot the short film The Song of Time, which was an official selection in the TOMI Film Festival of New Orleans and was honored by Women In Film & Television’s International Showcase.
Ms. Roberson founded her own production company, Clear Cinema, LLC, in 2006. After which, she wrote and directed two narrative shorts Friend In A Can and Standing Reign. Standing Reign was awarded “Best Film of Atlanta” in the 48 Hour Film Festival, ‘Best Short’ in the TOMI Film Festival of New Orleans, “Best Narrative Short” in the International Black Film Festival of Nashville and was also chosen for distribution on the “Best of 48 Hour Film Project 2007” DVD, which features only 16 selected films of over 2,000 entries.
In 2008, Crystle, a proud member of Women in Film & Television/Atlanta, was chosen to direct their annual PSA campaign, an opportunity that led to two broadcast PSAs for Girls Incorporated. Ms. Roberson was also honored by Women in Film & Television/Atlanta with the esteemed Woman to Watch Award in 2008. Next, Crystle was chosen as one of four filmmakers, nationwide, to compete in the Chase Legacy Film Challenge, an opportunity for young filmmakers launched at the Sundance Film Festival.
She was awarded a financial grant from Chase and Kodak to write and direct Next Door’s Next. This short film won the Challenge’s HBO Filmmaker Award, from which she received an additional film grant from Kodak.
Crystle served as Associate Director for the award winning short film Before I Wake, which won “Best Film” Grand Prize in The Doorpost Film Project. Her short film “The Black Cage” starring Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump) also earned “Top Film” status in Doorpost. Both of these films were also selected as 1 of 7 Top Films for BET’s Lens On Talent 2011. Crystle enjoyed being the only film director to have 2 films as Finalists in this esteemed competition.
In 2010, Crystle directed “Wild Flowers” a 30 minute spec-pilot for Great Fortune Films as well as a short film entitled “The Drop” Executive Produced by Grammy Nominated Gospel singer Martha Munizzi. She also directed a music video in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico featuring actor/artist Idris Elba (The Wire, Obsessed).
Crystle Clear is now preparing for her first feature film “Echo at 11 Oak Drive” which she wrote and will direct in the fall of 2011. She has enjoyed directing projects on various formats including the RED camera, 16mm and 35mm film, HD, and DSLR. She currently resides in Atlanta Georgia, where she works as a fulltime filmmaker.
