Contact Festival Dartington is the UK's largest annual international contact improvisation gathering. The week-long event includes intensives with international innovators in the contact improvisation form, afternoon open space proposals, evening jams, a conference, and performance evening. CFD’s unique format without parallel sessions allows all participants and teachers to follow a shared journey of research throughout the week, and is organised in a spirit of shared research and experimentation in movement practices that characterised the vibrant Dartington Dance Festivals curated by Mary O'Donnell Fulkerson at Dartington College of Arts in the 1980s.
Since 2011 Contact Festival Dartington takes place in the outstanding facilities of The Performance Centre in Penryn, which is also the new home of the performance training courses from Dartington, which came to Cornwall with the merger of Dartington College of Arts with Falmouth University in 2009. The festival is co-organised by Richard and Malaika Sarco-Thomas, and offers an experience rigorous enquiry, play and movement practice for improvisers with all degrees of experience.
