d.a. johnston’s films have screened recently in Ireland, Berlin, Chicago, Malaysia and St. Petersburg, Russia and frequented the likes of New Nothing Cinema (San Francisco), OffiCinema Festival in Bologna, Italy, the Pacific Film Archive, and the Athens International Film & Video Festival, where she received a Juror’s Prize for Best Experimental Film for "flux" and "Devil's Dairymaid." She has collaborated extensively with artists in various fields including DJs, musicians, painters, writers and dancers and is currently collaborating with her partner Kym on a number of film, photography and music projects.
The Simone de Beauvoir Fellow and a PhD graduate of the European Graduate School in Film, Theory and Philosophy (2011) with a book forthcoming from Atropos Press ("No Future Now: A Nomadology of Subversion and Resistance") she has also received an MFA in Filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004 and a BFA in Photography with a Film Studies Minor from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1999. Her short films "flux," "transubstantiation" and "anomie" are distributed by Canyon Cinema (canyoncinema.com/).
