Danny Lee

Born and raised in Los Angeles, writer/director/producer Danny Lee made his feature film debut with the critically acclaimed ROCK FRESH, a candid documentary of graffiti artists making the leap to commercial art. The film world premiered at the AFI Fest where Variety singled it out as one of the films to watch. The film aired regularly on Showtime and enjoyed a broad domestic and international DVD release.

Lee subsequently wrote and directed his narrative debut KING OF HOLLYWOOD, a dark comedy starring Ice-T, Peter Greene, Ike Turner, Glenn Plummer, and more. In addition, Lee has produced/edited featurettes for television shows LIE TO ME, BLUE BLOODS, and MEDIUM; documentaries for Current TV including WALE, HAN CHOLO, and ALOE BLACC; for MTV he has directed the MAKING THE VIDEO: T.I. and consulted on MTV’s Get Yourself Tested Campaign; showran/produced the Webby Official Honoree web series MISSION MAKEOVER for AOL Studios; and directed award-winning commercials for HELLO CHANGE and FIVE FOUR. Currently, Lee’s first scripted comedy series THE CLINIC is exclusively on Hulu. Lee’s currently working on reality projects with NICK METROPOLIS, JUSTIN GLORY, KATHY SHOWER, and more. In features, he has BACKPACKERS w/ Evan Ross and WINTER WAR, which was awarded the Best Project Award, along with a cash grant in the Korean Film Council 2008 Filmmaker Development Lab. In scripted television, he has two untitled projects.

Lee has been featured in Paper Magazine’s 10th Annual Beautiful People issue, highlighting him as one of the filmmakers to watch. In addition, Lee has been featured in Variety, Hollywood Reporter, GQ, LA Weekly, 944, URB, and Koream; appeared on the WB and KJLA, as well as radio stations KCRW, KXLU, and KUCI. In addition to wining the KOFIC lab, he was also a fellow for Film Independent’s Project: Involve program. Lee graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara Film Theory program, cut his production teeth at Lionsgate, and formed his own company Calico Works in 2002. Lee is repped by Paradigm.
