Dave Bender is the GPB bureau chief in Columbus and works out of the WJSP/88.1 FM office located in the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts complex in downtown Columbus.
Born in New York and raised in Florida and Texas, he got his start in the mid 1970's at the Pacifica Network's KPFT/90.1 FM in Houston. Producing and hosting programming at the listener-sponsored network, he knew his future was in radio and journalism. Moving overseas to Israel in the early 1980's, he took a break from broadcasting, returning to the field in the mid 1990's.
After a stint in foreign acquisitions at a local TV station, Dave joined The Jerusalem Post newspaper and website, first as a reporter and Internet-edition editor, later taking on responsibilities for Internet radio news and features. In the last few years, he has worked independently as a Jerusalem-based bureau chief, correspondent, and photographer, covering breaking news and features in the volatile region for many international TV, Radio, Internet and Print-based news agencies, publications and organizations.
Dave's beat at WJSP includes west central Georgia and parts of east central Alabama.
