Hello,
I am a two time Emmy Award winning Director / Dp in Austin, Texas. I hold a degree in film production from the University of Texas.
//Director//
I am a director with an interest in cinematic storytelling and effects driven storytelling infused with humor. My eye for images, and my editing experience lend themselves well to the familiar format of 30-second spots but I enjoy working in other genres including documentary.
I have experience working in all areas of production/post-production and my set of skills includes, shooting, editing, motion graphics, traditional animation, effects compositing, color correction, graphic design, pre-visualization (I draw my own storyboards), sound design and music composition all of which help me communicate my ideas to a crew of other talented artists. To me being a director has always meant having a solid grasp of every skill necessary to put together a video and being able to step in and do every job competently. I've spent quite some time honing those skills.
I started making videos in 1999 while I was in high school. I've never stopped.
My clients as a director include Verizon, Sunny Delight, Dell, Neilmed Pharmaceuticals, Icon and Loreal.
My personal project "The Day Almost Flew By" was selected as a "Staff Pick" by Vimeo in 2010.
//Director of Photography//
My range of experience as a shooter is broad. I've done everything from narrative work, to high end commercial production, to sports, documentary and reality shooting. I believe that everything I shoot teaches me how to be a better cameraman. Documentary informs narrative work, and narrative work informs commercial work and sports shooting informs everything else and so on. Each skill reinforces the others.
The following will give you an idea of my experience:
In the narrative world I have shot four Independent feature films and numerous award winning shorts, perhaps the most notable being "Table 7" by Marko Slavnic which just garnered the audience award at RED's 4K film festival in Los Angeles.
In the commercial world I have shot for national brands including Verizon, DELL, Best Western, Big Red, NCSoft, 2kSports, Amex, GMC, and Ford. I've lensed projects that spend in one day the equivalent of the entire budget of my first narrative feature. Not hard to do.
I have shot TV Promos for clients including TLC, The Weather Channel, and The Disney Channel. The video I shot for The Disney Channel won a 2011 Emmy award.
I have experience as a network cameraman and reality cameraman having shot for various television programs including the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii (NBC) (for which I received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Camerawork in 2011), E:60 for ESPN, The Daily Show on Comedy Central, Dr. Phil, The Rachel Ray Show, Entertainment Tonight, CBS Evening News, PBS Frontline, HGTV, NFL Films and The Weather Channel among others. I'm good working with small crews to create great images and tell stories in the budget conscious and fast paced world of television.
I have shot a range of music, concerts including ACL, Lollapalooza and various shows at SXSW.
I have shot all manner of corporate documentaries, brand films and industrial videos for various companies. Notable clients include, SONY Online Entertainment, DELL, Michelob Ultra, Anheuser-Busch, St. Jude Medical, Loudon County Virginia, the US Army, USO and the University of Texas. I have no idea how many hundreds of talking heads I have lit.
In documentary, my camerawork has been commissioned in Ecuador, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Morocco, Kenya and India and all over the United States. The last four countries listed were part of an around the world documentary on religion that I shot in 2012. It was the kind of production where all of my gear had to fit in one backpack and I'm really proud of the material we captured.
//Equipment//
I am an owner / operator of a Red Scarlet - X 4K Digital Cinema Camera package but I can shoot on any camera. The principals of cinematography remain the same despite the camera system and I'm a strong believer that a good DP can make a fantastic image out of anything.
A camera is only a tool.
Still, I chose the Red Scarlet - X because it is my tool of choice when shooting my own projects. It's a fantastic camera and I'd love to show you what it can do.
I also own a Canon 7D camera package, a set of canon lenses, lighting and sound equipment. Call for details.

David...would you share how many stills per second you were shooting? I'd like to mess around and do something like this (but much more simple) for fun, but not sure where to start. Thanks!
