John Le Brocq
Independent Filmmaker
BIOG
"A bit of biog they said, or we'll do it for you... okay, simple enough, but the thought of doing the whole third person palaver... fuck that for a game of soldiers. Biog? Bollocks... it's a pitch, a plug, an advert for me as a film maker.
And with so many fucking film makers out there... what have I got to offer that stands out from the crowd?
That would be the way I see the world and how that's then reflected in the stories I tell, and the way I choose to tell them... my particular directorial vision. My vision comes from a varied and curious past. A reckless youth, some grand adventures on the fringes, over the edge and a few from places most people have never even heard of.
I've worn a suit and sat at a desk, grown my hair and lived on the road, pulled pints, cooked books, deejayed for strippers, taught young and old, I've sold shit and gold and stuff I can't talk about. I've humped bags of cement, dabbled in property, squatted in Holland and been on the news. I've launched a Comic Book, abandoned a ship, been busted, dusted and kicked back at the pricks. I'm a proud father, a prodigal son and I'm not very old.
I have a back log of stories to tell and a point of view, a perspective and a vision from which to speak or interpret and all of it comes direct from experience. The voice is mine, and the style described as 'very original – that is rare and definitely something to hold on tightly '. So if you get the chance, grab with both hands and don't let go.
So far as a slightly more formal CV goes;
Carmarthen and Falmouth Colleges of Art, 2 years at each which led straight to Editorial Illustration for some of the National Dailies and a few Periodicals;
A spell as Creative Director for a new company producing work for Fringe Theatre, the Local Community and Art Exhibition;
Film School, 2 years at AFECT in King's Cross supplemented with short courses in related areas such as performance and directing;
Production Design, with a side order of Costume Design for Theatre and Film;
Storyboarding and Publicity Artwork;
Tuition, I've taught on a range of courses from 1 Day Film Schools for Digital Filmmakers to the 1 Month Filmmaking Certificate at London Film Academy for those who want to shoot Film;
Director of Photography, Producer, Art Director, Editor... so far as short films goes I've covered most roles.
I believe that if you're going to direct, to conduct the orchestra of talents committed to this film and your vision, then the more you know about who does what and when and how, the better.
And I've made a bunch of films as Writer/Director.
Of course there's a whole lot more, so what do you want to know? Looking for a pitch? An idea? Or just the man for the job? I'm here for Drama, Comedy, Commercials, Virals, Promos, and even just for the fun or hell of it... drop me a line, john@lebrocq.net
Until then, best wishes, take care, bye bye
John
