As the year 2000 rolled out and the world settled down after mass hysteria, one electrifying individual embarked himself on a journey that took him down a path that seemed dark and uncertain, but sparked a new adventure in his modest and humble life. He is Arturo Jacobo, better known to the world as the famous DJ Fuze (KPWR 105.9). His metamorphosis from passion for the turntable into a club and Radio DJ and beyond was written in his destiny.
It all started in Santa Ana, CA, when he was 15 and his mother was generous enough to acquire an inexpensive turntable and mixer to have young Dj Fuze learn on, and later perfect his trade. He states, “The turntables became my best friend. When I would come home from high school, I would run straight home to hop on the turntables and get hours of practice in.” Then after he was able to finish gathering his equipment and putting in work at local parties and venues, he knew he was ready for the next step, being a professional. “After getting hooked on the turntables, I knew that my goal was to one day become a Power Mixer,” Fuze says after his love of the instrument and new found interest in the local hip hop station, Power 106 (KPWR 105.9/LA) flourished. In particular two talented djs whose style he admires, DJ Coke-E (KPWR 1059.9) and Mr.Choc (World Famous Beat Junkie Crew), would eventually play a critical role in his advancement to becoming a deejay.
Back in 2006, Power 106 held the only Power Mixer Idol competition to date in which 100′s of Dj’s entered. After many eliminations, only two were left and one of those victors was Dj Fuze. The three judges were DJ E-man, Felli Fel, and Mr.Choc. The final was held on-air during the famous “Big Boy in the Morning” show at Six Flags Magic Mountain, California in front of a live audience. After a very intense battle between the two finalists and a surprise bonus round, Fuze attained a flawless victory. Like a knight about to claim his prize, he attained a Guitar Center certificate, an on-air opportunity and the coveted Power Mixer Idle title. This golden on-air opportunity, plus the countless submission of demos, brought Dj Fuze closer to his dream. Up to this date he is the one and only Power Mixer Idol. His persistence paid off when he was given a chance to mix on air during the Friday-Saturday switch on a limited-trial run. A determined Fuze worked vigorously throughout his trial run and along the way produced several “Jump Off” mixes for the station. After a year of hard work and dedication, Dj Fuze was officially named a Power 106 Mixer. Now it was time for Fuze to expand on his already increasing horizon and show case more of his talent.
He has done this by deejaying at the popular nightlife cities of Hollywood, San Diego and Las Vegas. He has also been part of on-stage performances with recording artists such as Ya Boy (“We Run LA”), The Rej3ctz (“Cat Daddy”), and Bobby Brackins (“143″). Also being part of the STP (Scratch This Promotions) DJ crew and successful Real-Ax Radio show put together by Ralph, Kobra, Abztrakt, Transfer, Excel, and 3 Flex (All STP members). Fuze also deejayed for acts such as Far-East movement (Cherrytree/Interscope), LMFAO (Interscope), One Block Radius (Island Def Jam) and West Coast Legend Warren G (“Regulate”, “This D.J.”). He can also be caught in the Los Angeles/Orange County/Ventura/Riverside-Inland Empire area on a weekly basis multiple times on-air at Power 106 (KPWR 105.9) on their FM dials. Fuze was also a “Featured DJ” in the 2009 UMA recipient for Best Magazine, Hip Hop weekly, in July 2011. He also has done corporate in-store events for Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, H&M, Ann Taylor and The Loft. Moreover, he was the recipient of a Platinum Record awarded to him by Interscope Records (Universal Music Group) in 2010. To top it off he was selected personally by Grammy and Billboard Award winning recording artist, Rihanna (Def Jam), to perform for her ultra-exclusive Twenty-Third Birthday engagement in Beverly Hills following the star-studded NBA All-Star weekend.
Dj Fuze is very honored by the road that God has helped him pave and is genuinely grateful with his parents, sisters and fiancée for their continued support. Alongside his close friends and many devoted fans. He personally states he likes to “play for crowds who like to have a great time and enjoy the atmosphere” and he wants to perform and electrify the entire world, one audience at a time!
